What do you need to know about men's acne and it's long-term effects on the skin?
Bernardo struggled with acne a lot as a teenager and this has continued into adulthood in the form of scarring on his face.
As part of our real men real skin series, we sat down with Bernardo to discuss his biggest skin insecurity and what skincare products have helped him with these concerns.
What is your biggest skin insecurity?
My biggest skin insecurity would be my acne scars. As a teenager, I had very bad acne which turned into scars, especially on my cheeks. It's a good thing I have a beard because they cover half of them! Being an actor, I am always conscious about how my skin looks and depending on the lighting it can really show. I am turning 50 soon, so I am becoming more aware of what age can do to your skin.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE FOR HEALTHIER SKIN?
I have been looking after my skin for many years and have found what works for me. I try to drink lots of water, sleep well and eat healthy.
WHAT SKINCARE INGREDIENT HAVE YOU FOUND THAT WORKS FOR YOUR ACNE SCARS?
Tiger Grass has amazing properties, especially for aging skin and a beautiful story behind it. The Tigers in China would roll over in this plant in order to heal their wounds so people realised that it has amazing healing properties and started using it in skincare. WHAT SKINCARE TREATMENTS HAVE YOU TRIED RECENTLY?
During lockdown I learnt, from my mum, about essential oils. They have amazing properties, especially for ageing skin, so I have been using lots of things that my mum showed me.
